Caring for your microwave

Can I buy spares for my microwave oven?
Yes , just visit our online shop at www.kitchenwareonline.com with secure payment via PROTX.
Cleaning domestic microwave ovens.
SAFETY FIRST. ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR MICROWAVE BEFORE CLEANING.

The air vents at the rear of the oven must be kept clean and free of any obstruction.
A blocked air vent will cause the oven to overheat, and cut out until it has cooled down again. If this happens repeatedly it will eventually damage the magnetron.
There are usually some vents under the oven as well, these are equally important to the 'well-being' of your microwave oven.

Clean the door and the cooking area (cavity) of the oven with hot soapy water, and a rough cloth. Never use abrasives, they will damage the lining of the oven, especially an enameled finish!

Cleaning a combination oven is more difficult, and should be done immediately after use. You will need to put in a lot of effort to get it really clean. You can try using a large heat proof bowl of water mixed with washing up liquid or a domestic cleaner such as flash (never use an abrasive cleaner, you will damage the finish on the lining), set the timer for 10 to 15 minutes, and allow the mixture to boil. When it has finished it's time, allow to stand for about 5 minutes, then clean the oven with a rough cloth using the remainder of the water. It's a good idea to protect your hands with gloves, as some household cleaners are not too kind to your skin, and also the water may still be hot enough to burn your hands, please be careful.

Important note. Some ovens have special self cleaning panels at the back of the lining, you should not use cleaning fluids on these panels, as you will damage the coating.
Handy hint
Lemon juice, or vinegar can be good for stains, and smells.
To clean the air vents use a stiff dry brush (an old toothbrush is ideal), never use a wet brush, you can get water inside the oven; water and electricity do not mix well.
Never spray cleaning fluids into air vents

Most airfilters are detachable and can be washed in hot soapy water

Cleaning your commercial microwave oven.
The air filter must be kept clean, this is a large metal mesh, usually in a frame underneath the oven, or clipped to the front of the oven underneath the door. This should be removed and cleaned in hot soapy water about once a month.

If the air filter or vents are allowed to become clogged with grease or dirt the oven will overheat and shut down. If you have an oven which cuts out when used frequently check the vents and filters before making a service call.

Never spray cleaning fluids into air vents.

Some ovens have a detachable lining in the roof, this should be removed and cleaned as required. The oven should not be operated without the roof, as this can cause serious damage to components in the roof of the oven.

You can clean the behind the roof lining if necessary, but be careful not to damage any parts eft exposed.

Clean the door and the cooking area (cavity) of the oven with hot soapy water, and a rough cloth. Never use abrasives, they will damage the lining of the oven! Most ovens have ceramic bases, these must be kept clean, and the seal inspected regularly. If the seal becomes damaged it won't leak, but liquid spillages can get under the tray and cause problems (not to mention a nasty smell!) If it's just a small hole in the seal, you can always repair it with some silicon RTV sealant (available from our website www.kitchenwareonline.com, or phone us on 01303 813530)
