We are getting a steady stream of enquiries about 12 and 24 volt inverters for running our low power microwave ovens off of camper van, and lorry batteries.
We have tried a few sources; but so far not been too impressed with the quality and after sales service, so we are still doing our 'homework' to find good quality inverters at a sensible price.
Problem is, there's quite a few cheap inverters on the market, but cheap is the word. We don't want to sell cheap appliances that pack up after a few months, and the find there's no after sales backup because the seller has moved on to another scheme. That doesn't help you, and it doesn't do our reputation any good either.
So bear with us and watch this space, when we have a product we are happy with we will let you know here.
When we do have a reliable source, we will be offering a package of one of our low power (500 watt) microwave ovens, together with either a 12 or 24 volt inverter.
The package price will be just short of £200 + VAT, including delivery(under half the price of a Samsung Roadmate).
Until we have a reliable source we can only give an approximate price.
Our best estimate at the moment for a 1200 watt inverter is about £130 +VAT (delivery included).
These low power ovens are only 500 watts, do I really need a 1200 watt inverter to run one?
Yes you do, the reason is microwave ovens are not 100% efficient at converting electricity into microwave energy.
The best they can manage is 50%, and you need to allow a bit of extra power just for a safety margin, so yes you do need a 1200 watt inverter.
